So familiar, yet so blind. That’s how I was with the cross of Christ. That is, until the day that I truly heard the gospel preached, and God opened my eyes to the endless beauty of the death of His Son. Now, everything else is dross – it’s chaff. If it doesn’t emanate from the cross, if it doesn’t glorify God, if it doesn’t point back to the truth of the gospel, then it’s worthless.

And the focus on the cross does not negate the importance of the resurrection. That thinking is a faulty as saying the more we focus on Jesus, the less we focus on the Father. The cross is where our sins were paid for, the wrath was received on our behalf, and God’s own were reconciled to Him. Christ's glorious resurrection fulfilled scripture, pointed back to the cross, proving what Jesus did on the cross, and His identity as the Son of God.

Praise God for the cross of Christ where my Savior did bleed. May it ever be before us and never dim to us again!

The Gospel is NOT Christianity 101 - so right. I was raised to minimize the glory of the Cross as the first stair step to "deeper" things, not to be revisited, considered and thought on at all times. It is glorious, and I now see the need by His grace to "preach the gospel to myself everyday" - desiring to once again focus my soul on the foundation, the main thing, what is of first importance - so that my joy may be full, and set my heart on the object of my faith - Jesus!

"we sin daily"...for those who have been walking "in the way" a long time these words are hard to swallow. "What? You mean after I say the 'prayer of salvation', everything is not perfect?" Perfection comes after we meet our Great High Priest in heaven. For now, we deal with indwelling sin, the warring Paul talks about between the Spirit and our flesh. The things I want to do, I don't do and the things I don't want to do, that is what I do. Things like pride or selfishness, impatience or irritability are definite indwelling sins that I still struggle with today. However, God is gracious to reveal them to me through His Word, through a friend's observations of my life, or this book :) I'm so thankful for His merciful grace and Christ's finished work for my/our salvation. To Him who sits on the throne and unto the Lamb; be blessing, glory, honor, power...forever!

"destroyed by grace"...Hmmm, I like that. Especially in light of Mahaney's intro. Certainly, Christ has been gracious to reveal Himself to me through His gospel, dispelling old mindsets of legalism and religion rooted in my own accomplishments and sinful pride. I'm thankful today that it's only by His grace we are saved and not by what we can do. BTW, I also enjoyed Dr.Mohler's forward. His description of the text being a 'manifesto for turning your world upside down' is classic.
My prayer as I read the book is to keep the center based in Christ and His accomplishment on the cross~ "being found safe in Christ- and that's the most exhilarating experience a human being can ever know." Grace and love to you all!

I repent for having chosen to forget for so long. God give me grace to never forget or take for granted the wonderful gifts You have given. May the Cross be always before me, and may I always choose to look, remember, and cherish!

Pastor Scott,

I think this is excellent! We just concluded a series on the Lord's Table as well.

May God continue to grant strength to you and your fellowship as you move on to maturity.

I love the body of Christ, The Bride. The lover. We are looking too much like the world and not laying our lives down for one another and using the scriptures to help keep ourselves and each other on track. "All scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, correcting, rebuking and training in righteousness." What happened to the last three?

I am so glad you did this step by step through the entire book, but especially blessed that you went through the closing as I tend to skip those greetings. Now I have a better understanding that I should not skip one word as each is important and brings a fuller understanding of what is being conveyed. I am embarrassed to admit this but so glad that there has been light shed in my darkness:-) Overjoyed! Debbie

Good Word! I love the new format of your newsletter and I am truly blessed by the truths that I am learning from each Living Waters.

I pray that God will help me not be judgmental and to be careful not to be a part of division.

This is a beautiful and practical description of the power and purpose of prayer. Being surrounded these days by those who think prayer is raising your voice and "boldly" declaring what will be, shouting phrases such as "It's my time, God, for MY blessing!" or "I believe that house (or car or sum of money) is mine!" It is absolutely refreshing to read what Jesus really meant when He said, "Thy will be done." How soon we forget, in our pursuit of "prosperity," that Jesus simply asked for "our daily bread." With all the money, stuff, and "blessings" I am surrounded by, I am STARVING for some simple "daily bread." Today's Living Water has been daily bread for me. Thanks and God bless.
